End Grain Butcher Block Boards

End grain butcher block boards are a great choice for any kitchen. Whether you are a professional chef, or just someone who loves to cook, these boards have three distinct features: They are extremely strong, easy on your knives and are self-healing. End grain boards are made of hardwood strips arranged vertically, so that the surface of the board is comprised of the end fibers of the wood. Identified by it's distinct checkerboard pattern, an end grain board protects your knives and helps maintain a sharp edge. This is due to the fact that in essence, the knife separates the wood fibers, rather than cutting across the long grain. This also protects the board from cuts and scratches, as the wood fibers will close and the surface heals itself. Our end-grain butcher blocks are two inches thick and can be made in various widths and lengths. (11.5" X 12 or 13" is a popular size that we keep in stock). They have integrated handles for easy moving. The boards are treated with our own wood conditioner made from food safe mineral oil and bees wax. See our page on our wood conditioner. Each board is made by hand, one at a time, so sizes and appearances vary slightly. Our standard butcher block is constructed from locally sourced American Ash. See our page on the American Ash tree.
